Biography

Life changing moment? Complicate things by overthinking it and becoming consumed in self-doubt. Possible soulmate? Sabotage the relationship in the name of past trauma and daddy issues. Great week? You can’t enjoy it. Experience forces you to believe there has to be a catch. I belong to a generation of beautiful wanderers and insightful over thinkers. We are a curious people who have a knack for creating pain before it gets to us and pausing when the moment is right. I belong to a culture of wit and instant emotions and a “sacrifice everything until you get it.” Whatever “It” is. Life teaches us to play it safe and observe the rules. And although I think it’s more than appropriate to embrace the rules – it’s equally as important to be reckless at times and experience some of life’s adventures. Join me as I dive in to the unknown… quite possibly literally! Let the journey began at  Merakisocialcircle.com.

Q & A:

What’s something not many people know about you?

– Most people don’t know that I lived in South Africa for a couple of years. I was working with an organization there that trained and sent out missionaries to other countries. While there I had the pleasure of growing into and becoming a part of that community. I worked with an amazing group of people that quickly became some of the biggest game changers of my life. I completely loved it and find myself missing it more often than not.

Why Meraki?

– I remember the first time Doc rolled out what Meraki had meant to her. She had a passion and a zeal for seeing ignorance being completely obliterated in terms of the mental health community. I’ve always wanted to start a discussion in the colored community in regards to mental health and the stereotypes and myths behind it. When I encountered explanations to things that were taboo growing up it gave me a sense of self, stability and belonging. These things were missing for such a long amount of my life and I’ve made it into a  life goal to reach those around me with knowledge to bring them into a place of healing, belonging and breakthrough.

What’s your favorite food?

– Arroz con leche. Translated from Spanish it is “rice pudding.” My Mom would make it during the winter time; I’d wake up to the smell of warm, condensed milk and cinnamon sticks brewing over the stove. It was a staple of my childhood and one of my favorite memories.

What’s one of your favorite places you have travelled to?

– MAURITIUS. Bro, MA-JE-STIC. It was beautiful. Above the amazing scenery and the breathtaking landscapes, the people are what made that land so beautiful (and I’m not just saying this because every house I walked into supplied me with some of the best Indian food I have ever eaten). I encountered families who gave up every inch that they could of their home because they valued community and togetherness more than hotel rooms and titles. This was hands down a place I would visit over and over again with no itinerary.

What was your favorite childhood memory?

– Drinking out of the hose. No regrets.
